ATC

Alcohol Treatment Centre.

ATR

Alcohol Treatment Requirement – A court order that imposes treatment on an individual where alcohol has been a factor in their criminal behaviour.

ASFACarduf

ASFA stands for Alcohol Services for All and Carduf stands for Current, Abstinent, Recovering Drug User Forum.

BBV

Blood Borne Virus – viruses that some people carry in their blood and can be spread from one person to another.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – A type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought are challenged to change unwanted behaviour.

DRR

Drug Rehabilitation Requirement – A court order that imposes drug rehabilitation on an individual where drugs have been a factor in their criminal behaviour.

DIP

Drug Intervention Programme.

DRD

Drug Related Death – A death that is probably a direct consequence of the non-therapeutic taking or administration of any drug or volatile substance (excluding alcohol alone). Where drug taking was a causative or contributory factor in a person’s death.

e-das

e-das stands for Entry to Drug and Alcohol Services.

HBV

Hepatitis B Virus.

HCV

Hepatitis C Virus.

IOIS

Integrated offender intervention service – the service which went live in 2012 to incorporate the DIP, DRR, ARR and AAR as one new service in Cardiff, Vale, Rhonda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil.

MI

Motivational Interviewing – A therapeutic process whereby the practitioner supports the individual to come to his/her own change by asking motivating questions.

NPS

New Psychoactive Substances – The name given to psychoactive drugs which are not prohibited by the United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs or by the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and which people in the UK are seeking for intoxicant use.
